TRAWLERS

The steel outrigger shrimp trawlers weigh 130 tons and are 26 by 7 meters in length and width respectively.

Vessels operate twin rigged bottom trawls with each otter trawl joined in the middle by a steel pseudo board. Propelled by a 624 Hp Caterpillar 3412 engine to a maximum speed of 10 knots, they have an 85 KW Caterpillar 3304 auxiliary engine to run the fish hold and plate freezers on board

Experience from Atlantic Shrimpers Limited was combined with that of the vessel builders (Ocean Marine, USA) to design a vessel that was easy to clean, and that allowed rapid handling of products on deck, as well as efficient freezing and storage.

In addition to this the vessels were designed to provide hygienic living and working conditions for a crew of 13 who spend about 50 days at sea.

Top and major overhauling is carried out every one and two years respectively, whilst Dry docking, underwater coating, and repairs are performed every two years. Excellent vessel maintenance ensures safety of the crew at sea, optimizes fuel efficiency, and the life of the vessel.
